INTERNATIONAL NON-DEGREE EXCHANGE STUDENTS

We offer you a warm welcome as you begin your planning to study as a visiting student at the University of Pittsburgh! The Swanson School of Engineering is very proud to host international exchange and other international non-degree undergraduate students each semester. The Engineering International Programs office strives to help these students transition to academic life within our school.

There are a few things to consider prior to coming to Pittsburgh to study.  Below are some steps you should follow.

  1. You must first be admitted to the University.  To do so, you must apply as an international non-degree undergraduate student at www.abroad.pitt.edu

  2. Once admitted, we suggest you begin to review the courses offered on Pitt’s website: http://www.courses.as.pitt.edu/

  3. Prior to the beginning of classes, you will be contacted by our office introducing you to the faculty advisor who will assist you with finalizing your course selection, course registration, and who can answer any academic questions.

  4. The Office of International Services (www.ois.pitt.edu) will be providing you with both your immigration documents to apply for the visa and important orientation information.  They are the first office you will interact with upon arrival on-campus. Their website includes important information about housing and overall planning for your arrival.

  5. You are able to connect with current students who would like to be your mentor prior to coming to campus. Please contact one of Pitt’s mentors who are a part of the International Outreach Committee (http://www.studentaffairs.pitt.edu/outreach).

  6. Trying to find a homestay or connect with others in Pittsburgh prior to your arrival? Global Pittsburgh is an organization that plans activities for those visiting Pittsburgh as well as organizing homestays.  Contact them today! http://www.globalpittsburgh.org/

Safe travels and we hope to see you soon!
