overview

Intervention Effectiveness research for safety and loss prevention systems is an area that Dr. Haight has currently underway. This includes an operations research approach to optimizing performance of human driven systems involving a multi-variant approach to analyzing the impact of multiple performance variables.

Human Factors Engineering and Human Error research as applied to automation systems and age related capacity loss and experience offsets as well as physiological stresses and information overload for operators in the oil and chemical industries - other process industries such as paper and pharmaceuticals to be included. This has included numerous human factors/ergonomic and biomechanical case studies exploring both ergonomic and cognitive stresses on workers in the specialty chemical and food packing industries.

Government Research (2009-2013)
As manager of a research branch in CDC-NIOSH, Dr. Haight supervised the following eight research projects:

1. Development and Evaluation of Prototype Kneepads for the Low-Seam Mining Industry
2. Design and Evaluation of an Ergonomics Audit for Mining
3. Underground Coal, Metal, & Nonmetal Mine Illumination Systems for Improving Miner Visual Performance
4. Improvements to Mine Escape Training
5. Virtual Reality to Train and Assess Emergency Responders
6. Assessing and Evaluating Human Systems Integration Needs in Mining
7. An Analysis of Health and Safety Management Systems in Mining
8. Enhanced Utilization of Personal Dust Monitor Feedback

In this effort, Dr. Haight managed approximately 35 researchers and a discretionary budget of ~$820K/year. He was responsible for scientific merit, staffing, human resource management, budgetary management, quality control of the research portfolio and its outputs
