If you have attended another college or university after graduating from high school and now wish to attend the Swanson School of Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh, refer to the following guidelines: 

EXTERNAL TRANSFER GUIDELINES 

To be considered for admission, students must: 

  • Have a minimum GPA of 3.0. Community College students need to have a minimum 3.25 cumulative GPA. A 3.5 GPA is required for all students planning to major in Bioengineering.  
  • Complete at least 24 credits appropriate for engineering, including two semester sequences of Calculus, Chemistry, Calculus-based Physics, and Computer Programming in C or C++  

  • If students have fewer than 24 credits, their high school record will also be evaluated in the admissions decision.  

SPECIAL NOTE ON TRANSFER CREDITS: 

No more than 60 credits may be transferred from a two-year college. No more than 90 may be transferred from a four-year college. To view all transfer credit guidelines:

To apply, please contact the  Office of Admissions and Financial Aid. All application materials should be sent to the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid, including official copies of transcripts from high school and all previous colleges or universities attended and an official SAT or ACT test result as needed. 

Students wishing to receive AP or IB credit must have their scores sent to the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid during the application process. The Swanson School of Engineering cannot accept CLEP credit. To view AP credit accepted by the Swanson School of Engineering please visit:
