Post-Baccalaureate Mining Certificate

The certificate will provide students with:

  • Basic knowledge of mining industry
  • Appreciation of mining’s important health, safety, and environmental issues
  • Understanding of the key engineering tools and concepts needed to solve these complex issues
  • Recognition of the need for a commitment to high standards, a disciplined process, and professionalism. 

Gainful Employment Disclosure

For persons with BS in engineering or science:

  • There are no pre-requisites for engineers
  • The pre-requisite for science majors are a BS degree, Phy I, Chem I, and Calc II
  • Select five mining engineering courses from the following list. Most courses are offered both traditionally and through our distance learning program
  • A PA Miners’ Certification may also be necessary to work in Pennsylvania. Click here to learn more about this certificate.

All post-baccalaureate certificate students are required to complete five courses from the list of courses below and must achieve an overall QPA of 3.0 or better to receive a Mining Engineering Certificate from the University of Pittsburgh.
